Get eclipse ready! Stop by for eclipse activity sheets (great for kids) and build your own pinhole eclipse viewer (everyone needs one!).

It’s not safe to look directly at the sun, and even during the eclipse in DC only 89% of the sun will be covered and is still a hazard for your eyes. A pinhole viewer allows you to safely observe the eclipse by watching a projected image of the sun on the bottom of the box.

Did you know that during an eclipse, you can see the same effect as the pinhole viewer caused by sunlight filtering between leaves? Take a look during the eclipse: instead of scattered circles of light on the ground, you’ll see crescent shapes!

This event is free, but we recommend bringing your own box (a cereal box is perfect!) in case we run out. Registration is not required but enables you to easily add this activity to your calendar.

*We’re also selling eclipse glasses in the store. Unlike the pinhole viewer, they are made with a resin that is infused with carbon particles. Because of the strength of black polymer, solar eclipse glasses block all ultraviolet rays and nearly all visible light so that you can safely look at the sun when wearing them.
