The exhibit “Permítanme Hablar” showcases the vibrant semi-representational abstract works of AnaYelsi Velasco Sanchez. The pieces in this exhibit depict stories of justice and liberation., inviting the viewer to connect with the emotions and experiences conveyed in each piece. The title “Permítanme hablar” translates to “allow me to speak,” and is inspired by mujerista theology, which emphasizes the voices and lived experiences of Latinas. This title is particularly empowering for the artist, as she works to reclaim her first language, lost through forced assimilation. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Venezuela, AnaYelsi Velasco Sanchez (she/ella) is a reconnecting IndoLatine mujerista working to create and agitate her way through the Latin diaspora. She is a highly skilled and compassionate public educator who utilizes her signature Interlocking Justice methodology to catalyze an embodied response. Interlocking Justice is a holistic, accessible, and sustainable approach to justice and liberation work that AnaYelsi teaches and speaks about nationwide. She empowers individuals and communities with her diverse skill set, which includes education, coaching, consulting, writing… and art.

AnaYelsi’s passion for liberating justice work often seeps into her creative endeavors – resulting in art that provides a commentary on human nature with a focus on identity, mental health, and the pursuit of justice and liberation. She is self-taught and has been painting professionally since 2012. Her work has been showcased in places like Orlando City Hall, DC’s Venezuelan Embassy, and in galleries such as Orlando’s CityArts Factory. She’s also been featured in multi-artist shows in both Washington, DC and Orlando, FL.
